We're not exaggerating when we say... this was one of the best discussions we've ever heard on artificial intelligence, the ethics around it, and its impact on our society. It’s a must-watch.

In honor of Black History Month, the Open P-TECH team hosted a film screening of CODED BIAS, then held a panel discussion with the filmmaker herself, Shalini Kantayya, and AI experts from IBM.

The film follows Joy Buolamwini, a young, Black researcher at MIT’s Media Lab who discovered widespread bias in algorithms. And it left us wanting to do more to ensure the AI algorithms that shape our world are treating every user equally.

Watch the panel discussion to hear the experts discuss how to reduce bias in algorithms and how to bring more diversity to the teams creating this technology—among many other things.
